Traditionally
constructed software can win medals for about as long as an
Olympic athlete can: about eight years. Client business rules
change faster than vendor code can, so the code dies from the
infestation of business rules and the untraceability of cloned
code. As long as the vendor can bill you for reprogramming,
thy're covered, but you lose.
All of our software was born in the 90's from object-bigoted
parents. Our designers are obsessed with factoring software
into orthogonal chunks of functionality executing C++ and Java
objects. This is not just at the event user interface level
but also at the fine-grained part level. We enjoy an extremely
high level of reuse because the software was factored for it
and because we actually reuse it. Because only a few people
make all architectural and design decisions... |

don't miss an opportunity to leverage tested and trusted
code.

we make a factoring mistake, we re-factor it rather than
"clone-and-go" to meet "this quarter's revenue
target".
- When
we see code that is threatened with technological obsolesence,
we reorganize it for compatibility or conversion rather
than charge our customers repeatedly for retrofitting.
